Art of woman wearing ski gear

The Story Behind My Ski Girl Collection

I started skiing when I was about three years old, and it’s been a part of my life ever since. Skiing was something my family always did together, and it became one of the main ways we bonded during the winter months.

Growing up, we were part of a small ski club that shared a cabin in Tahoe. It cost just $10 a weekend for our family to stay there and back then we would ski on a local, small mountain when ticket prices used to be under $20. The club was designed in the 70’s even in the ’90s, it had a vintage charm: shag carpets, and pleather couches in shades of magenta, turquoise, and mustard yellow. We’d spend our days on the slopes and our evenings back at the cabin, surrounded by laughter and chaos. The kids would build snow forts and have competitions outside, and later, we’d thaw out with lukewarm, watery Nestlé hot chocolate while huddled around the small TV watching classics like Flubber. Those moments, the simplicity and community are what I remember most.

Skiing was always something that I would do with my family. My older brother, dad, and I would usually ski together, finding all of the expert trails. I would always try to keep up with them, saying yes to any run, which pushed me to become a pretty decent skier. I loved the bluebird days and the thrill of seeing how much speed I could pick up on a freshly groomed run.

Now, my husband loves to snowboard, and we frequently go to Aspen to ski, although it’s been a lot less since having a kid. I’m hopeful we’ll get Briggs on skis this year! A day out on the slopes was also one of the best ways I bonded with my in-laws early in my relationship with my husband, and I’ll always cherish those memories.

My Ski Girl Collection was born out of all of these experiences. Each painting captures a bit of that spirit, the nostalgia, the bright winter colors, and the sense of movement and freedom. These Ski Girls represent having an adventurous spirit and capturing the beauty of the sport. Through them, I wanted to celebrate the joy, confidence, and fun that skiing brings, that feeling of flying down a mountain, surrounded by fresh air, sunlight, and the people you love most.
